Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 953 asked in the Legislative Council on 4 September 2019 by Hon Martin Aldridge

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

REGIONAL RUN-OFF-ROAD CRASHES PROGRAM

953. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the minister representing the Minister for Transport:

I refer to the minister's media statement of 1 August 2019 entitled ''Federal backing sought for WA road safety initiative''.

(1) At the time of issuing the media statement, had the minister submitted a formal proposal to the Australian government seeking $720 million over nine years?

(2) If yes to (1), can the minister please table the state government request for funding?

(3) If no to (1), has the minister now formally submitted a proposal and will the minister table that proposal?

(4) Given that the requested funding exceeds $100 million, has the state government submitted the project for assessment by Infrastructure Australia; and, if so, on what date was the submission made?

(5) If yes to (4), can the minister please table the Infrastructure Australia submission?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by the Minister for Transport.

(1)–(3) As outlined in the media statement, the minister would raise this matter with the federal minister. This has occurred and discussions are ongoing with the commonwealth.

(4)–(5) The regional run-off-road crashes program is predicated on low-cost safety treatments being applied to literally hundreds of different sections of road across the network. This program will save lives on our regional roads and has a benefit–cost ratio of 4.05.
