CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE —
CLASSROOM TEACHING SUPPORT PROGRAM
13. Hon CHARLES SMITH to the Minister for Education and
Training:
I
refer to the Confucius Institute University of Western Australia website that
claims that 35 schools have participated in its classroom teaching
support program.
(1) To what
extent have WA schools been participating in the abovementioned classroom
teaching support program and other Confucius Institute activities?
(2) Does each
participating school have an agreement with the Confucius Institute; and, if
so, is the minister aware of the content of these agreements?
(3) Is there a mechanism to monitor
these agreements for security purposes?
(4) Will the minister provide a list of the schools
participating in the classroom teaching support program in WA?
Hon SUE
ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) Principals
may elect for their school to participate in the classroom teaching support
program. The department does not hold this information as these are
school-level decisions.
(2) Any
participating school is required to have an agreement with the Confucius
Institute. The agreement outlines the roles and obligations of
volunteers, schools and the Confucius Institute.
(3) The monitoring of school-level
agreements is the responsibility of principals.
(4) Refer to (1).
