Question Without Notice No. 151 asked in the Legislative Council on 27 March 2018 by Hon Rick Mazza

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

WAROONA–YARLOOP BUSHFIRES — FERGUSON REPORT —AGENCY OPPORTUNITY RECOMMENDATIONS
151. Hon RICK MAZZA to the minister representing the Minister for Emergency Services:
I refer to the minister's response to my question without notice 101 on 21 March 2018 regarding the report of the special inquiry into the January 2016 Waroona fire, ''Reframing Rural Fire Management'', and his answer in part (2) —
      Recommendation 15: the development of a rural fire service is well advanced and will be delivered after the current bushfire season to ensure that it can be implemented without affecting current operations.
Will the new structure —
          (a) be established as a separate entity from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services;
          (b) have an independent budget;
          (c) be able to employ staff; and
          (d) have a leadership structure that, to the greatest degree possible, is regionally based and runs the entity?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The answer provided is that this is a cabinet matter and, as has previously been advised, an announcement will be made in due course.
