Question Without Notice No. 303 asked in the Legislative Council on 3 April 2019 by Hon Diane Evers

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

BUSHFIRE MITIGATION — SHIRE OF MANJIMUP

303. Hon DIANE EVERS to the Minister for Environment:

The Shire of Manjimup's annual ''Firebreak & Fuel Hazard Reduction Notice 2018/2019'' states —

Subject to the required clearing permit being obtained, a property owner may extend the Building Protection Zone to a maximum of 40 metres.

(1) What criteria does the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation use to assess the amount of clearing allowable for fire mitigation?

(2) How many applications for clearing over 20 metres did DWER receive in the shire area and what was the result in 2017–18 and 2018–19 to 30 March 2019?

(3) How many applications for clearing for any purpose did DWER receive in the shire area in 2014–15, 2015–16 and 2016–17?

(4) Has DWER ever declined or refused applications to clear within 40 metres; and, if yes, for what reason?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

Given the level of detail that is being sought, it is not possible to provide an answer in the time required. I ask the member to place the question on notice.
