Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 1047 asked in the Legislative Council on 31 October 2018 by Hon Colin Holt

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

BUNBURY OUTER RING ROAD ROUTE

1047. Hon COLIN HOLT to the minister representing the Minister for Transport:

In a South Western Times article published on 25 October regarding the Bunbury Outer Ring Road, Main Roads spokesman Dean Roberts is quoted as saying —

''Economic and social impacts are considered as part of the road planning process,''

''These have been considered as part of the submission process to Infrastructure Australia and during the Alignment Selection Study.

''All of these documents are readily available

(1) Can the minister please table these economic and social impact studies?

(2) As the minister has confirmed that she is relying on Main Roads to keep her office apprised of the issues, is she aware of the level of angst felt in the community as a result of the realignment of the route?

(3) Is the minister aware that many local residents feel that the community consultation process has been inadequate?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Transport.

(1) Please refer to tabled paper 2117, as tabled on 30 October 2018.

(2)–(3) An extensive program of community and stakeholder engagement is being undertaken. Ongoing activities include two community reference groups, each held monthly; community drop-in sessions; landowner meetings; consultation with the four greater Bunbury local government authorities; consultation with special interest groups, including the freight industry, road user groups, business forums, community groups and the Bunbury port; and regular project updates to members of the community.
