Question Without Notice No. 728 asked in the Legislative Council on 11 August 2020 by Hon Colin Holt

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

RACING AND WAGERING WESTERN AUSTRALIA — HARNESS RACING

728. Hon COLIN HOLT to the minister representing the Minister for Racing and Gaming:

I refer to the Harness Racing Owners' Association of Western Australia.

(1) Is it an eligible body under the Racing and Wagering Western Australia Act 2003?

(2) If yes to (1), is it eligible to vote for the harness racing nomination for the RWWA board?

(3) How many members does it have?

(4) Is it a constitutional organisation; how is this verified and please table the verification?

(5) If it is not considered a constitutional organisation, is it able to be listed as an eligible body and therefore eligible to vote?

Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:

I thank the member for the question. The following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Racing and Gaming.

(1) Yes. Section 12 of the Racing and Wagering Western Australia Act 2003 stipulates that Racing and Wagering Western Australia is to declare which bodies are eligible bodies and by what process they are to be appointed.

(2) Yes.

(3) It has 110 members.

(4) No.

(5) Yes. It is listed as a prescribed body under the Racing and Wagering Western Australia Regulations 2003 for the purpose of consultation and it represents a stakeholder group in WA harness racing and is therefore considered by the RWWA board to be an eligible body. The RWWA board is responsible for determining eligible bodies.
