DUST MANAGEMENT — PORT HEDLAND

I refer to the recent appointment of Mr Ross Love as lead
consultant on the proposed voluntary buyback scheme in Port Hedland's
(1) What is the anticipated total cost of engaging this
(2) Please provide an outline of their anticipated travel
schedule and travel costs.
(3) When is the consultant's report due?
(4) Will the
minister outline further details of the consultation process and will the
possible impact of dust in relation to the Spoilbank marina be a part of the
Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN
I thank the member for
the question. I am sure the member shares my enthusiasm for the appointment of
Mr Ross Love to solve this very difficult problem that has been left
unattended for many years in Port Hedland.
(1) The anticipated total cost will be $45 900 including GST.
(2) Four visits to Port Hedland, at a cost of approximately
(3) It is due by the end of the calendar year.
(4) Mr Love
has hit the ground running and has already visited Port Hedland this week and
met with the local progress association, attended a Chamber of Commerce and
Industry of Western Australia breakfast with over 50 attendees, and has met
with the town commissioner and the Pilbara Development Commission board. I can
also add that he has met with the chairman of the Pilbara Ports Authority. Mr Love
plans to hold three community consultation workshops and will meet with the
community, business, government and resource sectors as required. Mr Love has
no direct role in the development of the Spoilbank marina, which is being led
by the Pilbara Development Commission.
