WILLIAMS–KONDININ
ROAD — MAINTENANCE
432. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the minister representing the
Minister for Transport:
I refer to Williams–Kondinin
Road between Narrogin and Wickepin, including the Wickepin town site.
(1) Is the
minister aware of the deterioration of this road and the safety issues it
presents, which the Shire of Wickepin has made known to Main Roads on several
occasions?
(2) What maintenance work is planned
for rectification of these concerns?
(3) Is the
minister aware that the Shire of Wickepin has offered to make the required
repairs to the road at the state's cost, and will she accept this
offer?
(4) Do any of the
pavement failures relate to recently contracted work, and to what extent will
contractors be held to account for rectifying these issues?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. This answer is dated 2 April 2019, so the answer
is current as at that date.
(1)–(2) Main
Roads carries out fortnightly inspections of this road and undertakes both
urgent temporary repairs in the short term and permanent repairs in planned
annual programs. In 2019 to date, this has included four permanent pavement
repairs and four temporary pavement repairs on the Narrogin–Kondinin
road.
(3) Main Roads undertakes all necessary emergency and
programmed works to ensure the safety of road users.
(4) Main Roads'
maintenance and construction contracts require the contractor to rectify any
defective work. When such defective work is attributed to shortcomings of the
contractor, rectification is at the contractor's expense.
