Parliamentary Questions

Question On Notice No. 635 asked in the Legislative Council on 13 March 2018 by Hon Martin Aldridge

Question Directed to the: Minister for Education and Training
Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Question

I refer to the $64 million in savings announced by the Minister on 13 December 2017 in a media statement "Education savings measures to help contribute to budget repair", and I ask:
(a) of the $64 million claimed in the media statement, how much can be attributed to education services affecting regional students versus metropolitan students; and
(b) will the Minister please provide a detailed break down of the $64 million per service reduction?

Answered on 11 April 2018

(a)-(b)

Tough decisions have had to be made to get WA's finances back on track to fix the mess left by the previous Liberal National government.

It is a false narrative that somehow regional Western Australia is bearing the brunt of budget repair. That is simply not the case. All parts of the community to help contribute to budget repair - the public sector, business, industry, individuals and families – both in metropolitan Perth and regional Western Australia.

As you are aware some of the education savings measures announced on 13 December 2017 were reversed on 11 January 2018. The changes announced apply across all areas of the State, including metropolitan Perth.

It is not possible to provide a full or detailed regional versus metropolitan breakdown given the statewide delivery of services.
