Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 47 asked in the Legislative Council on 13 February 2020 by Hon Nick Goiran

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITIES — STAFF — WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECKS

47. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for Child Protection:

I refer to the minister's media statement ''New processes to strengthen Working with Children Checks'' released on 3 February 2020 in which it was stated that the Department of Communities has —

taken action to ensure all Department of Communities employees who work with children are compliant with WWCC and reviewed its practices to further assist family and foster carers with meeting WWCC requirements.

(1) How many Department of Communities' employees work with children?

(2) Further to (1), how many do not have a current working with children check?

(3) How many family or foster carers do not have a current working with children check?

(4) Further to (4), how many currently have children in their care.

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. Because of the limited time frame, I am unable to provide an answer today, but I will endeavour to have a response to the member by Tuesday, 18 February 2020.
