BUILDING INDUSTRY — SECURITY OF PAYMENT REFORM

1065. Hon COLIN TINCKNELL to the minister representing the Minister for Commerce and Industrial Relations:

(1) Has the government received the findings of the industry advisory group on the security of payment reform in the building and construction industry, chaired by Mr John Fiocco and assisted by Hon Matthew Swinbourn?

(2) Does it recommend the government plan to adopt any of the 86 recommendations made by Mr John Murray in his ''Review of Security of Payment Laws: Building Trust and Harmony''; and —

(a) if so, which ones; and

(b) if not, can the McGowan government tell us what steps it plans to take in an effort to better protect the financial rights of subcontractors and help them avoid long, drawn-out and expensive legal avenues?

I thank the member for the question. The following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Commerce and Industrial Relations.

(1) Yes. Mr Fiocco's report was received by the Minister for Commerce and Industrial Relations on 31 October 2018.

(2) The McGowan government is considering Mr Fiocco's report.
