FOREST PRODUCTS
COMMISSION — JARRAH REGROWTH
1181. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the minister representing the
Minister for Forestry:
Thank you, President, and it is not
even a Thursday!
I refer to the statement made by Mr
Andrew Lyon of the Forest Products Commission during budget estimates held on
23 June 2022, that Jarrah regrowth is predicted to decline by 50 per cent over
the next fifty years, under moderate and high emissions scenarios.
(1) Will the minister table the
scientific evidence to support this statement?
(2) Noting the government's target under the WA
climate policy to reach net zero emissions by 2050, if that target is
reached, what will the predicted impact on jarrah regrowth be in both the
northern and southern regions?
(3) If the target
of net zero emissions is met, what will the predicted impact on karri regrowth
be over the next 50 years?
Hon
DARREN WEST replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question and on behalf of the minister representing the Minister
for Forestry, I provide the following answer.
(1) Printing all
the documents for tabling could not be completed in the time available. The
minister commits to providing this information by 1 December 2022.
(2)–(3) Climate change
impacts are global; therefore, these questions are impossible to answer.
