Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 812 asked in the Legislative Council on 13 September 2018 by Hon Donna Faragher

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

WESTERN AUSTRALIAN WOMEN'S HEALTH STRATEGY

812. Hon DONNA FARAGHER to the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Health:

I refer to the answer provided to question without notice 711 asked on 29 August 2018 regarding the Western Australian women's health strategy 2018–2023.

(1) Given the department's ''Women's Health Strategy Consultation'' document states, ''After the second round of feedback, amendments will be made, and the approvals process begun in order to finalise the Strategy for launch on International Women's Day, 2018'', which was in March this year, has the department informed interested stakeholders of the delay in its release; and, if not, why not?

(2) If yes to (1), will the minister table all relevant correspondence to interested stakeholders advising of the delay; and, if not, why not?

(3) Why is the department ''undertaking further consultation''?

(4) Who is being consulted as part of this ''further consultation''?

Hon ALANNA CLOHESY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. I am advised of the following.

(1) No. This will occur as part of further stakeholder consultation currently being planned.

(2) Not applicable.

(3) As previously advised, statewide health policies are developed and released by the Department of Health as the system manager. Further consultation is required to ensure the alignment of the first draft of the strategy developed by the Women and Newborn Health Service with the health system and also the whole-of-government approach to women's policy.

(4) Key stakeholders will be identified as part of the consultation approach. This will align with similar policy development approaches undertaken in areas such as men's health and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex health policies currently being developed.
