GREAT SOUTHERN CENTRE FOR OUTDOOR RECREATION EXCELLENCE
179. Hon COLIN HOLT to the Minister for Regional
Development:
I refer to question without notice
97 asked on 19 February to the Minister for Sport and Recreation regarding the
Great Southern Centre for Outdoor Recreation Excellence.
(1) Has the minister
or the Great Southern Development Commission received a proposal from GSCORE
for renewed funding?
(2) If yes to
(1), has the minister corresponded with the Minister for Sport and Recreation
about renewed funding for GSCORE?
(3) Has the minister agreed to meet with GSCORE to
discuss funding proposals; and, if yes, when will this occur?
(4) Will GSCORE
be funded after 2020; and, if yes, how much funding is being allocated and over
what time period?
Hon
ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the question.
(1)–(4) The
Great Southern Centre for Outdoor Recreation Excellence did apply for funding
in round 2 of the competitive regional economic development grants. It was not
successful in that round. I spoke to its members while I was down in Albany in
late February during the community cabinet and had a brief discussion with
them. They have subsequently put their request in writing, which is that they
want to discuss the possibility of having a centralised point of contact across
ministerial portfolios and for me to look at supporting their work. The funding
for GSCORE was not explicitly raised in that letter. I have had discussions
with the CEO of the Great Southern Development Commission. I have asked it to
meet with this group to work out this concept and to report to me.
