Question Without Notice No. 826 asked in the Legislative Council on 14 August 2019 by Hon Charles Smith

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

TEACHERS — WORKERS' COMPENSATION

826. Hon CHARLES SMITH to the Minister for Education and Training:

I refer to the WAtoday article of 1 May 2019 titled ''Veteran teacher stripped of sick leave after PTSD diagnosis wins unfair dismissal case''.

(1) How many teachers are currently off work on workers' compensation claims in Western Australia?

(2) How many applications for workers' compensation are currently being assessed from teachers currently off work?

(3) How many of those teachers currently receiving workers' compensation are receiving the compensation due to issues related to mental health?

(4) How many critical incident reports have been submitted to date compared with this time last year?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. However, I am unable to provide an answer today, as the Department of Education needs to seek the information that the member is looking for from RiskCover. This information is unable to be provided in the time frame available today. I undertake to provide an answer to this question on 20 August 2019.
