Question Without Notice No. 92 asked in the Legislative Council on 20 February 2019 by Hon Simon O’Brien

Minister responding: Hon A. MacTiernan
Parliament: 40 Session: 1

Answered on 20 February 2019

SHIPPING CONTAINERS — NORTH WHARF, FREMANTLE

92. Hon SIMON O'BRIEN to the Minister for Ports:

(1) What is the expected number of shipping containers—twenty-foot equivalent units—expected to pass over North wharf, Fremantle, this year?

(2) Does the government anticipate any difficulty meeting the container road transport task on Stirling Highway; and, if so, what is being done to overcome those difficulties?

Hon DARREN WEST replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of his question. On behalf of the Minister for Ports, I provide the following answer.

(1) The expected number of shipping containers is 793 000 twenty-foot equivalent units.

(2) No. We believe the increased rail subsidy that has taken the number of TEUs on rail up to 18 per cent will help manage the road transport load.
