Question Without Notice No. 258 asked in the Legislative Council on 21 June 2017 by Hon Charles Smith

Minister responding: Hon M.H. Roberts
Parliament: 40 Session: 1
Answered on 21 June 2017

POLICE — MEDICALLY RETIRED OFFICERS
      258. Hon CHARLES SMITH to the minister representing the Minister for Police:
I refer to recent media reports of suicide and mental health issues increasing amongst Western Australian police officers, and the Premier's pre-election commitment to giving access to a workers' compensation–style package for medically retired police officers.
      (1) What is the time line for implementing the government's election promise to bring in a workers' compensation–style package for WA Police?
(2) Does it entail full retrospectivity to capture those already medically retired; and, if not, why not?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Police.
(1)–(2) The delivery of election commitments is being progressed, and announcements will be made in due course. The Minister for Police has met with the Medically Retired Western Australian Police Officers Association Inc and the WA Police Union regarding this issue.
