Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 657 asked in the Legislative Assembly on 10 September 2020 by Mr P.A. Katsambanis

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

PUBLIC VIOLENCE — PERTH

657. Mr P.A. KATSAMBANIS to the Premier:

I have a supplementary question. How does the Premier expect people to visit or take a staycation in the Perth city if he cannot provide basic law and order and keep them safe from violent crime because there are not enough police on the beat?

Mr M. McGOWAN replied:

Now we have the Liberal Party encouraging people not to holiday in Western Australia! That is what the member is saying.

Mr P.A. Katsambanis interjected.

The SPEAKER: Member for Hillarys!

Mr M. McGOWAN: Every day, this member stands up and asks questions and embarrasses himself. The fact that he can come in here and say such things that is a message—not even subliminal—to tell people to not holiday in Western Australia is frankly disgraceful.

Mr P.A. Katsambanis interjected.

The SPEAKER: Member for Hillarys!

Mr M. McGOWAN: Our city, just like our regional communities, is a wonderful place to visit. They are wonderful places to go on holidays. They are great places for people to enjoy.

Mr P.A. Katsambanis interjected.

The SPEAKER: Member for Hillarys, that is your last warning.

Mr M. McGOWAN: I was in a hotel in the city yesterday in Northbridge, and it was beautiful. We are about to open the new Museum. We are about to do all sorts of things for the city. The East Perth Power Station redevelopment has been talked about for 40 years and this government is doing it. There will be a new bridge across the river. It has been talked about forever. This government is getting on and doing it. There will be numerous new attractions to bring people into our city and regional communities, and all we have is the Liberal Party talking them down. Honestly, it is no wonder the member for South Perth is leaving, because the Liberal Party these days is a disgrace.

The SPEAKER: That is the end of question time.
