BANKSIA HILL
DETENTION CENTRE — PREMIER'S MEETING
734. Ms M.J. DAVIES to the Premier:
Will
the Premier table the agenda and the names of the attendees of the meeting
being hosted by the Premier tomorrow regarding the crisis at Banksia
Hill Detention Centre?
Mr M.
McGOWAN replied:
It is a meeting to hear from
people. I do not know whether there even is an agenda. I will put it this way:
it is an agenda to listen to people. I am
unaware whether there is a range of topics. It is an agenda to sit around the
table with a group of people who have expressed views on the matter to listen
to what they have to say. The Leader of the Opposition seems to be critical of
that. I think that is a reasonable thing to do. From memory, the attendees are
the Minister for Corrective Services; the Minister for Community Services; the
Commissioner for Children and Young People,
Jacqueline McGowan-Jones; Fiona Stanley, who has expressed views on the matter;
Jonathan Carapetis and Ben Wyatt from the Telethon Kids Institute; Gail
Beck from the Aboriginal Advisory Council; Mr Daniel Morrison from Wungening
Aboriginal Corporation; and a number of other attendees and me. It is an
opportunity to listen. I do not know why the Leader of the Opposition is so
critical about that.
