SCHOOLS — HEALTH SUPPORT STAFF
341. Mr P.J. RUNDLE to the Minister for Health:
I
have a supplementary question. I am very worried about the mental health of our
youth. I know that that takes up only
6.5 per cent of the budget. Is the minister looking to increase that budget so
that our families can have confidence that the government is actually
addressing these essential services?
Mr R.H.
COOK replied:
Obviously, I will not be talking
about what is in the forthcoming budget, but I will direct the member's
attention to the way that the McGowan government has kept every one of its
election commitments. We made a commitment at the last election—I think
the investment was $36 million—that we would boost school psychologists
by around 100 new school psychologists. That is the colour of our money when it
comes to wanting to make sure that we can continue to protect the mental health
and wellbeing of our young people.
