GOLD
CORPORATION — LEADERSHIP
606. Mr R.S. LOVE to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question. Noting that Gold Corporation
is, in dollar terms, the state's third largest exporter, how was it
able to continue to trade with no appropriate ecommerce platform in place,
especially after the GoldPass trading app was launched on the Premier's
watch?
Ms R. Saffioti interjected.
The SPEAKER: Order, please! Thanks for your advice,
Minister for Transport, but the Premier can be asked questions on any portfolio
area.
Mr M. McGOWAN
replied:
The thing about it is that the administration issues were
there over successive governments, so it was under the last government as well—these
administration issues about noncompliance with some rules in America, I think.
They were there when Colin Barnett was the relevant minister as well. The
member might recall that there were some changes to the chairperson of Gold
Corporation. We brought in a respected international businessperson, Sam Walsh, to take over. I copped some criticism,
I think from the member, about that. Now he may understand why I made
some changes. We actually made changes. When the member was in office, he did
not.
