Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 738 asked in the Legislative Assembly on 10 November 2021 by Mr R.S. Love

Parliament: 41 Session: 1

CORONAVIRUS — INTERSTATE BORDER RESTRICTIONS — TRANSITION PLAN

738. Mr R.S. LOVE to the Premier:

I have a supplementary question. Will the Premier guarantee that we will have a teacher in front of every classroom when school resumes in 2022?

Mr M. McGOWAN replied:

Honestly, here we are again!

Ms S. Winton interjected.

The SPEAKER: Again, it is the Premier we want to hear from, not the member for Wanneroo.

Ms R. Saffioti interjected.

The SPEAKER: Order, Minister for Transport!

Several members interjected.

Mr M. McGOWAN: Madam Speaker, honestly, the worst —

Several members interjected.

The SPEAKER: Are there some people here who would like to be ejected from question time? Because it looks like there are two or three of you at the moment. I would like to hear the answer from the Premier.

Mr M. McGOWAN: The weakest, the most irresponsible and the most pathetic opposition in the history of Western Australia is what you are. Here we are —

Several members interjected.

Mr M. McGOWAN: Do you think it is easy? You have people like Nick Goiran out there providing support to the anti-vaxxers. That is what you have.

Several members interjected.

The SPEAKER: Point of order!

Dr D.J. Honey: Point of order.

The SPEAKER: Just wait until you get the call. When he or any member asks for a point of order and I say ''point of order'', that is a signal for you all to desist screaming out. You are contributing nothing by doing that. I want to hear the point of order.

Point of Order

Dr D.J. HONEY: The Premier knows that he should be using the correct ''Hon'' title as you referred members to yesterday.

The SPEAKER: That is right, members. All members of the other house are to be referred to by their title, which includes the word ''honourable''.

Questions without Notice Resumed

Mr M. McGOWAN: Yes, Madam Speaker. It is Hon Nick Goiran. The only time the Leader of the Liberal Party stands up to say anything is to defend Hon Nick Goiran. It is the only time he stands up to say anything.

I would like to see the Liberals and Nationals actually go out there and support us in getting people vaccinated. We have had a look at some of your social media posts and some of the stuff you are doing. There is no support. You are not out there saying, ''Get vaccinated.'' All you do is try to undermine and cause grief for the program and provide support to some of those people out there who roll up at my office! All the Liberals and Nationals do is support some of those people out there who roll up at my office threatening, intimidating and bullying. Outrageous conduct is going on in our community that I have never seen before. It is a time —

Several members interjected.

The SPEAKER: All your interjections are wasted if you just create a wall of noise.

Mr M. McGOWAN: All I would say to the Liberals and Nationals is that it is a time for serious political parties to do serious things. If members opposite ever want to be in government again in this state, they should be going out and saying, ''We support the government. Please go and get vaccinated.'' That includes the education workforce, the health workforce, the mining workforce, other critical industry workforces and those who work with vulnerable people across the state. Stop trying to score cheap political points out of this!
