MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES
948. Mr Z.R.F. KIRKUP to the Minister for Mental Health:
I have a supplementary question.
When will the minister respond to the Productivity Commission's report,
the sector and his own plan, which he just cited, that shows that we need to
increase the level of funding for not just outpatient services, but
community-based services for young people and older people in Western Australia?
Mr R.H.
COOK replied:
I think the member will find that if
he reviews Hansard, I just answered his supplementary question before he
got to his feet; that is, we are continuing to fund more mental health services
than ever before through record growth in funding. We do have a plan for mental
health services. It is a plan that was struck under the previous government and
it is a plan that we are committed to as well. It is not just the
responsibility of the state government, despite our record investment; we need
the commonwealth working with us to make sure that we have an adequate level of
services in our community.
