COMPREHENSIVE CANCER CENTRE
602. Ms L. METTAM to the Minister for Health:
I refer to the proposal for a new
state-of-the art WA comprehensive cancer centre.
Ms S.F. McGurk: You've
read The West.
Ms L. METTAM: You should be
able to answer it then.
The SPEAKER: Interjections on
questions are really unruly and I ask the minister not to interject while the
question is being asked.
Ms L. METTAM: I refer to the proposal for a new
state-of-the-art WA comprehensive cancer centre that aims to bring together
world-class diagnosis, treatment, trials and research facilities for cancer
patients in one centre, as in other states.
(1) Does the government support this
project?
(2) What
assurance can the minister provide that her federal Labor colleagues will not
simply dump this vital project in next week's federal budget?
The SPEAKER: I caution the
member. That was a very, very long question. I will ask the Minister for Health
to respond to the key points.
Ms A.
SANDERSON replied:
(1)–(2) The
WA government has indicated its support for the comprehensive cancer centre. We
provided money for a business case in the last budget and for that conglomerate
to work towards a business case as well. The member's question should
really be directed to the federal government.
