KWINANA OIL REFINERY —
CLOSURE
835. Mrs L.M. HARVEY to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question. I thank
the Premier for his response. With regard to the need for us to be more
self-reliant on critical and strategic resources, can he advise how many days'
fuel supply is our target for ensuring fuel security for Western Australia?
Mr M.
McGOWAN replied:
The
commonwealth government has responsibility for that, as I have said repeatedly.
Just so that members understand, although the refinery is a refiner, all
the fuel it deals with is imported. All the crude that comes in is imported
into Western Australia and then it is refined at the site.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER: Members!
Mr M. McGOWAN: Our view is
that the whole thing is very disappointing. We are very disappointed in BP. I expressed that view about its conduct and
behaviour to the company on a number of occasions, but this was a matter
outside of our control. The commonwealth has greater opportunity to deal with
fuel security issues, in particular the importation of fuel into Australia,
than the state government has.
