I refer to the $119.6m in the government’s budget papers to support the delivery of vaccinations and implementation of statewide and targeted media campaigns, and I ask:
(a) How much has been spent to date on media campaigns;
(b) How much has been spent in advertising in each of the following mediums:
(i) Television;
(ii) Radio;
(iii) Internet;
(iv) Print; and
(v) Other;
(c) What KPIs are being used to measure the effectiveness of the campaign;
(d) Is a target vaccination rate one of those KPIs? If so, what is the target; and
(e) How much has specifically been spent on the delivery of vaccinations to date?

Answered on 15 February 2022

(a) $119.6 million was included in the 2021/22 State Budget to support the delivery of the COVID-19 vaccination program. $5 million of the $119.6 million was allocated for information and awareness campaigns. The remainder was provided for initiatives to support the rollout of COVID vaccines, such as the VaccinateWA booking system.

(b) As at 28 January 2022, $3.41 million of the $5 million had been spent in 2021/22 financial year.

(i) Television – $631,124

(ii) Radio - $933,847

(iii) Internet – $580,416

(iv) Print - $221,004

(v) Other - $1,043,474

(c – d) The overarching goal of the campaign is to raise awareness of the benefits of getting the COVID-19 vaccine and provide people with information to encourage them to get vaccinated. This has been overwhelmingly successful, with 98.2% of Western Australians aged 12+ having received one dose and 93.8% have received two doses as of 9 February 2022.

The campaign is currently focusing on the vaccination of 5 to 11 year olds and third doses for those eligible.

(e) The total COVID-19 vaccination expenditure to 31 December 2021 was $93.4 million. This includes vaccination delivery, operational costs, program management and the establishment of vaccination clinics.
