Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 1210 asked in the Legislative Council on 22 November 2022 by Hon Neil Thomson

Parliament: 41 Session: 1

EAST–WEST FREIGHT DISRUPTIONS

1210. Hon NEIL THOMSON to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for Transport:

I refer to the recent train derailment on the Australian Rail Track Corporation track in Victoria.

(1) Has the Minister for Transport been briefed on the derailment?

(2) If not, why not?

(3) If yes to (1), is there any expectation that the recent derailment will have an impact on the supply and/or price of food and other goods in Western Australia?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1)–(3) The minister has been briefed on this matter and has been working with her interstate colleagues and the transport industry to ensure the ongoing movement of freight into Western Australia. For example, at the minister's request, South Australia has agreed to allow larger road trains to operate temporarily on the east–west route.
