BUSHFIRES —
STIRLING RANGE NATIONAL PARK — COST
1195. Hon DIANE EVERS to the Minister for Environment:
I refer to bushfires in the Stirling
Range in 2019.
(1) Will the
minister please table a report on the control of the fires, including any
timetable of events for —
(a) the Mondurup fire in the Stirling
Range, which started on 7 December 2019; and
(b) the fire on Boxing Day in the
Stirling Range, which started on 26 December 2019?
(2) Will the minister provide the
cost of the response to each fire?
(3) Will the minister also provide
the total cost of each fire, estimated if not known?
(4) If no to (3), why not?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) There was no
report prepared on the control of either bushfire. A timetable of events
extracted from the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions
bushfire reporting system is provided in a paper that I now table.
[See paper 4540.]
(2) The
approximate cost of the response expended by DBCA for each of the bushfires is:
Mondurup Peak, $852 827; and Stirling Range
National Park, $1.439 million. There are further costs associated with response
and support services that would have been incurred by the Department of Fire
and Emergency Services, local government and other agencies; however, DBCA does
not have access to these records.
(3) The approximate total expenditure incurred by DBCA
for each of the bushfires is: Mondurup Peak, $852 827; and Stirling
Range National Park, $1.655 million.
(4) Not applicable.
