POLICE OFFICERS
825. Hon
PETER COLLIER to the minister representing the Minister for Police:
I refer to the answer to question
on notice 168, asked on Wednesday, 11 August 2021, which stated that there were
7 272 sworn police officers on 30 June 2021,
and to a response given at the Western Australia Police Force estimates
hearing on Wednesday, 22 June 2022, which stated that there were 6 744 sworn
officers on 30 June 2021.
(1) Why were two
different figures provided to indicate the number of sworn officers on 30 June
2021?
(2) What was the total number of
sworn officers on —
(a) 30 June 2021; and
(b) 30 June 2022?
(3) What is the number of sworn
police officers as of today's date?
Hon STEPHEN DAWSON
replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to me
by the Minister for Police.
(1) An
administrative error occurred. Once the error was realised, appropriate
processes were put in place to have a correction made at the first opportunity.
(2) The Western Australia Police
Force advises that it was —
(a) 6 927 police officers; and
(b) 7 007 police officers.
(3) There are 6 911 police officers with an additional
199 police recruits currently in training at the WA Police Academy.
President,
I am not sure whether I gave the wrong answer on the previous date. If so, I apologise
to the house for that. This hopefully brings the matter to a close.
