DEPARTMENT
OF FIRE AND EMERGENCY SERVICES — VOLUNTEERS — CONTRIBUTION
991. Hon COLIN de GRUSSA to the minister representing the
Minister for Emergency Services:
I
refer to opportunity 17 of ''Reframing Rural Fire Management: Report of
the Special Inquiry into the January 2016 Waroona Fire'', which
states —
The
Department of Fire and Emergency Services (and, when established, the Rural
Fire Service) to measure and report annually on the volunteer fire and
emergency service worker contribution.
(1) Does the
Department of Fire and Emergency Services currently measure and report on this
significant contribution; and, if so, please table the latest report?
(2) Does this data also measure the considerable work
that volunteers do beyond frontline emergency response, including
administration, training, or cleaning and maintenance of appliances and
facilities?
(3) If no to (2),
why not?
(4) Is the
minister aware that the Bushfire Volunteers association has developed a smartphone
app that can be used to measure this data, and does the minister support the
use of this app by bushfire volunteers or other emergency service volunteers?
(5) Has the
minister or the Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner received any request
to support the development or promotion of this application, and what response
was given?
Hon SUE
ELLERY replied:
On
behalf of the Minister for Environment representing the Minister for Emergency Services,
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.
The minister advises that he is
unable to provide an answer in the required time today. I will provide the
