Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 1264 asked in the Legislative Council on 11 November 2020 by Hon Peter Collier

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

HUAWEI — RADIO SYSTEMS REPLACEMENT CONTRACT

1264. Hon PETER COLLIER to the minister representing the Minister for Transport:

I refer to the contract to build a mobile data network for Perth's public train system after the cessation of the previous contract with Huawei.

(1) Has the government finalised the cessation of the contract with Huawei and UGL; and, if so, what was the cost to cease the contract?

(2) If no to (1), when is this expected to be completed?

(3) What is the revised expected cost of this project and when is it expected to commence?

(4) How will local firm UGL be supported during this new tender process?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable Leader of the Opposition for some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by the Minister for Transport.

(1) Yes, the contract has been terminated. Any claims arising from the termination are still to be determined.

(2) Not applicable.

(3) The project is continuing. Any revision in the budget will be considered following consideration of responses to the recent tender process for a new technical provider.

(4) The state government's focus is to achieve the best value for taxpayers while supporting local jobs in the delivery of this contract.
