Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 627 asked in the Legislative Council on 2 September 2021 by Hon Steve Martin

Parliament: 41 Session: 1

GERALDTON PORT — LONG WAVE SURGE

627. Hon STEVE MARTIN to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for Ports:

I refer to the answer provided to question without notice 538 asked on 18 August about the long wave surge at Geraldton port.

What initiatives, as referred to in the answer, are being undertaken by the Mid West Ports Authority to reduce the impact of long wave surge and berth closure times?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

Work is underway to upgrade berth infrastructure to allow for the increased use of shore tension units so that vessels alongside are impacted less by the long wave surge. A study with oceanographic experts into reducing long wave surge and berth closure times is also underway.
