FIRE DANGER RATING SYSTEM
839. Hon
MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the Minister for Emergency Services:
I refer to the new Australian Fire
Danger Rating System and the fire behaviour index.
(1) What FBI rating has been
identified as a trigger point for a total fire ban?
(2) Will the minister please table
the revised SAP 3.5.A relating to total fire bans?
(3) Will the
minister please identify which fire weather districts have recorded an FBI of
50 and above since 1 September 2022; and, of those, how many were subject to a TFB?
(4) Why was no TFB declared on 13 September for the
south interior and Eucla fire districts, which had FBI ratings of 58 and
97 respectively?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) It is an FBI of 50.
(2) Revision of SAP 3.5.A is
currently subject to the final stages of approval and publishing.
(3) The south interior and Eucla.
Neither were subject to a total fire ban.
(4) The decision to not declare a TFB on 13 September
was made in consultation with applicable local government chief bush
fire control officers and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and
Attractions, and after consideration of Department of Fire and Emergency
Services intelligence assessments of fuel-load risk and recent rainfall.
