INSURANCE COMMISSION —
BELL RESOURCES SETTLEMENT
619. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the Leader of the House
representing the Premier:
Again, I anticipate that I will
receive the same answer as before, but I will read in the question.
I
refer to the media release by the Premier on 4 October 2020 in which he said
that he ''is giving every Western Australian household a one-off
$600 credit on their residential electricity bill'' from 1 November 2020
and that this would be ''funded by the historic Bell Group settlement,
which returned around $665 million back to WA taxpayers after associated costs''.
(1) What has been
the total cost of the commitment to date?
(2) Has the
entire cost been paid for by the transfer of money from the Insurance
Commission of Western Australia?
(3) Will the entire cost of the
commitment come from future transfers of money from ICWA?
(4) If yes to (3), has the board of
ICWA agreed to that transfer; and, if so, when did it do so?
(5) If yes to
(3), has ICWA been reimbursed for the costs of the Bell Resources litigation or
is it expected to absorb the $292 million cost in its own budget?
Hon SUE
ELLERY replied:
As I indicated before, the Premier;
Treasurer is not available to answer questions today, but I am advised an
answer will be provided on Tuesday.
