WILD
DOGS — CONTROL
854. Hon COLIN de GRUSSA to the Minister for Environment:
I refer to my letter sent to the
minister on 24 August 2020 regarding wild dog management on land managed by the
Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions.
(1) What is the
current status of all restricted chemical product permits issued to DBCA for
the purpose of wild dog management activities on land under its management
control in the Esperance region?
(2) In the event
that any of these permits have lapsed, is it DBCA's intention to renew
the permits pending the conclusion of the current negotiations with recognised
biosecurity groups, or RBGs?
(3) If no to (2),
what activities will be undertaken by either DBCA or RBGs to manage wild dogs
pending the conclusion of the abovementioned negotiations?
(4) What entity,
agency or organisation is ultimately responsible for the management of wild
dogs on land managed by DBCA?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question, and, indeed, his correspondence on the matter.
(1) All permits
previously held by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions
for wild dog management in the Esperance region have expired.
(2)–(3) DBCA is currently working with other relevant
government agencies and the recognised biosecurity groups to clarify the
arrangements for the permits that are required to undertake wild dog control
for agricultural protection purposes on DBCA-managed lands.
(4) It is DBCA.
