HEALTH — WORKFORCE — RECRUITMENT

497. Hon TJORN SIBMA to the minister representing the Minister for Health:

I refer to the minister's media statement on 14 April titled ''Important staffing boost for WA hospitals''.

(1) How many of the 1 000 newly qualified nurses committed to in the release have been employed to date?

(2) Of those, how many have been offered and accepted —

(a) permanent full-time contracts;

(b) short-term contracts?

(3) How many reside in Western Australia?

(4) How many have relocated from —

(a) interstate; or

(b) overseas?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1) There are 949 newly qualified nurses and midwives.

(2) (a) Nil—they are still in their transition to practice program.

(b) There are 949. All NQNM are offered fixed-term contracts. These are usually 12 months that range from 0.6 FTE minimum to full-time while they complete their TPP.

(3) There are 949.

(4) (a) Five midwives from Queensland and Northern Territory.

(b) Nil.
