NATIVE FOREST — LOGGING — DECISION-MAKING
736. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the minister representing the
Minister for Environment:
(1) Will the
minister table any and all reports and/or research papers that informed the
government's decision to cease native forestry?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
(3) Was the decision to cease
native forestry a cabinet decision?
(4) Who was the
Minister for Environment when the decision was made, as opposed to when the
decision was announced?
Hon
STEPHEN DAWSON replied:
I thank the Leader of the
Opposition for some notice of the question. The following answer has been
provided to me by the Minister for Environment.
(1) No.
(2) Climate
change and its impacts on rainfall in the south west is well documented, and
the decline in rainfall since the 1970s has been deemed greater in south west Western
Australia than anywhere else in Australia. Information and reports on climate
change projections for Western Australia are readily available. The mid-term and end-of-term performance reviews of
the Forest management plan 2014–2023 further discuss the
implications of climate change for forest health and the consequent challenges
for the forest products industry.
(3) Yes.
(4) It was Hon Amber-Jade
Sanderson, MLA.
