Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 1015 asked in the Legislative Council on 23 September 2020 by Hon Tim Clifford

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

WEST TO EAST GAS PIPELINE

1015. Hon TIM CLIFFORD to the minister representing the Minister for State Development, Jobs and Trade:

I note Woodside CEO Peter Coleman's comments during the Business News Success and Leadership breakfast yesterday advocating for the west to east gas pipeline. I also note the WA government's domestic gas reservation policy in which the Premier declared that the WA government would not support such a pipeline except in exceptional circumstances.

(1) What does the Premier envisage such an exceptional circumstance to be?

(2) What steps is the WA Labor government taking to ensure that these exceptional circumstances do not occur?

Hon ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:

I thank the member for the question. I have been provided with the following answer.

(1)–(2) The government's position is that domestic gas allocations or obligations are not available for the eastern states.
