Question Without Notice No. 411 asked in the Legislative Council on 4 August 2021 by Hon Martin Aldridge

Parliament: 41 Session: 1

POLICE — G2G PASS APPLICATIONS

411. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the minister representing the Minister for Police:

I refer to the article published by ABC news on 3 August titled ''WA residents frustrated with G2G entry pass system with little guidance after multiple rejections''.

(1) How many staff, by FTE, are responsible for processing and responding to G2G applications?

(2) How many travellers have arrived in Western Australia from medium-risk jurisdictions since 23 June 2021 without an approved G2G PASS?

(3) For those travellers identified in (2), please provide a breakdown of how many travellers were —

(a) issued with a G2G PASS and approved entry;

(b) permitted to enter Western Australia without a valid G2G PASS;

(c) issued with a fine or other penalty; and

(d) refused entry and returned to their state of origin?

Hon KYLE McGINN replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to me by the Minister for Mental Health representing the Minister for Police.

The Western Australia Police Force advises —

(1) Specific information relating to staffing levels at individual business units and police stations is not publicly released for operational reasons.

(2)–(3) The actual number of arrivals from medium-risk jurisdictions is unable to be obtained without extensive manual effort and the diversion of police resources from other tasks. This is due to the changes in risk levels per state in response to changing circumstances and health advice.

Accuracy remains the main focus of the Western Australia Police Force when releasing data. The WA Police Force maintains high-level data on the movement of persons into the state to provide operational and tactical intelligence, to inform critical decision-making and direct resource allocation.
