Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 971 asked in the Legislative Council on 16 November 2021 by Hon Colin De Grussa

Parliament: 41 Session: 1

CORONAVIRUS — MANDATORY VACCINATIONS — TEACHERS

971. Hon COLIN de GRUSSA to the Minister for Education and Training:

I refer to question without notice 946, which I asked on 11 November 2021.

(1) How many staff have now responded to the survey?

(2) How many have said they are teachers; and, of the teachers who have responded how many have received only one dose of the vaccine and how many are fully vaccinated?

(3) (a) Can the minister confirm that leave without pay is being revoked in some schools in relation to concerns around staffing?

(b) Was this a directive of the Department of Education?

(4) Were TAFE college lecturers sent a similar survey; and, if not, will they and when will that occur?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1) As at 15 November 2021, 28 075 staff had responded. The Department of Education is continuing to receive responses.

(2) The survey did not ask respondents to specify their role within a school. It would be onerous to separate teachers from other education staff. It is not considered to be a reasonable or appropriate use of government resources to divert staff away from their normal duties to do this while we are continuing to receive responses.

(3) (a) No.

(b) Not applicable.

(4) Yes.
