POLICE — TEMPORARY HOLDINGS DIVISION

1245. Hon PETER COLLIER to the minister representing the Minister for Police:

(1) Why and when are police officers placed in the temporary holdings division?

(2) How many police officers are currently in temporary holdings?

(3) How many police officers were in temporary holdings on 1 January 2021?

(4) Are police officers in temporary holdings included in total police numbers?

On behalf of the minister representing the Minister for Police, I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following information has been provided by the Minister for Police.

The WA Police Force advises the following.

(1) Police officers may be placed in temporary holdings for a range of reasons, including if they are expected to be absent from the workplace for a minimum of six months and there is a corporate or operational requirement for their usual function to be performed; if they are officers on parental leave in excess of four months, who are generally placed into dedicated parental leave temporary holdings positions in order for their positions to be backfilled; if it is as an outcome of an inquiry into a disciplinary matter; or for compassionate reasons.
