COMMISSION — FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL ACCREDITATION
757. Hon JAMES HAYWARD to the minister representing the
Minister for Forestry:
I refer to accreditation from the
Forest Stewardship Council of the Forest Products Commission.
(1) Does the
minister consider accreditation from the FSC possible if forestry activities
are not sustainable?
(2) If yes, will the minister inform the Western Australian
public that FSC-accredited timber is not sustainable?
(3) If
FPC-managed forestry in Western Australian native forests is not sustainable,
at what point in time did it become unsustainable?

The Minister for Forestry has provided the following answer.
(1)–(3) The
Forest Products Commission has never received Forest Stewardship Council
accreditation for its jarrah harvesting operations.
