Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 1204 asked in the Legislative Council on 4 November 2020 by Hon Jacqui Boydell

Parliament: 40 Session: 1

COSSACK TOWN SITE — SALE

1204. Hon JACQUI BOYDELL to the minister representing the Minister for Lands:

I refer to question without notice 1183 asked yesterday on my behalf regarding the sale of the town site of Cossack.

(1) Why is the state government seeking an expression of interest to develop Cossack when the Western Australian Planning Commission recently rejected an application that would enable tourism activation to proceed?

(2) Given that the state government has released registrations of interest with the closing date fast approaching, what is the state government doing to modify the planning scheme to allow development to take place?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following answer has been provided to me by the Minister for Lands.

(1) The types of applications that are determined by the Western Australian Planning Commission involve subdivision and development. No applications of these types have been received by the WAPC in relation to tourism activation.

(2) Modification of the local planning scheme, in the first instance, requires a decision by the local government to initiate an amendment. The outcome of the registration of interest process may inform any future amendment to the City of Karratha's local planning scheme.
