Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 851 asked in the Legislative Council on 21 September 2022 by Hon Martin Aldridge

Parliament: 41 Session: 1

GERALDTON HEALTH CAMPUS — REDEVELOPMENT

851. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the minister representing the Minister for Finance:

I refer to the Geraldton Health Campus redevelopment.

(1) What is the expected completion date for the redevelopment?

(2) Has the tender process for the main works contract recommenced; and, if so, on what date did it recommence and how many tenders have been received?

(3) If no to (2), what is the approximate time frame for the tender to reopen and for how long will it remain open?

(4) Will the tender process be completed by the end of 2022?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The following answer is provided on behalf of the Minister for Finance.

(1) The McGowan government is committed to delivering the major upgrade of Geraldton Health Campus for the people of the midwest and Gascoyne. In the 2022–23 state budget, an additional $49.4 million was allocated for this redevelopment, bringing the total investment in this project to more than $122 million. The government has already delivered stage 1 of the redevelopment, which included a reconfigured main entry and more than 400 additional car parking bays. Stage 2 of this significant project includes an expanded emergency department, a new ICU and upgraded mental health facilities. The expected completion date for stage 2 will be determined once the tender is awarded.

(2) A request for proposal is currently being developed, which, upon completion, will progress to market.

(3) Western Australia is experiencing record low unemployment and supply and equipment pressures, combined with an incredible demand across our construction and infrastructure sectors. An expression of interest date is currently under consideration.

(4) See above.
