Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 758 asked in the Legislative Council on 31 August 2022 by Hon Dr Brad Pettitt

Parliament: 41 Session: 1

SWAN RIVER CROSSINGS PROJECT

758. Hon Dr BRAD PETTITT to the Leader of the House representing the Minister for Transport:

I refer to Main Roads WA's ''community update'' of 30 August 2022, which states —

We've had a busy week briefing community groups, residents and businesses about the new concept for the Swan River Crossings Project

(1) Will the minister please provide a list of the community groups that Main Roads has given a briefing to since the new concept plans were released on 21 August 2022?

(2) Was the plan to take Canning Highway down to the Swan River foreshore and under the new bridge consistent with outcomes from earlier community engagement sessions?

(3) If no to (2), why was the community not consulted about this fundamental change, particularly given that it involves putting a road through the foreshore reserve and will adversely impact the retention of the heritage-listed old traffic bridge?

(4) How many square metres of the existing public open space reserve between Canning Highway and the Swan River will need to be rezoned for roads; and will the minister please table a map of this rezoning if one is available?

Hon SUE ELLERY replied:

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question.

(1) The alliance has continually engaged with key stakeholders, businesses, residents and community groups on the Swan River crossings project since it began in 2019. Briefings on the final concept design for community and business groups have commenced. A full list can be provided once all briefings and community information sessions are complete.

(2) Yes.

(3) Not applicable.

(4) Square metreage will be determined as detailed design progresses.
