KWINANA OIL REFINERY —
CLOSURE
1298. Hon ROBIN CHAPPLE to the minister representing the
Minister for State Development, Jobs and Trade:
This is an incredibly badly written
question, I have to say!
I refer to the announcement of the
closure of the Kwinana oil refinery, the fuel additive methyl tertiary butyl
ether, and the decisions to import oil into WA. I also note the questions asked
by Hon Liza Harvey in the other place.
(1) Can the
minister confirm that Australian-made fuels cannot contain more than 0.1 per
cent MTBE?
(2) Will imported, foreign-made
fuel be permitted to exceed 0.1 per cent MTBE?
(3) Will the
minister please elaborate the controls and procedures to ensure that imported
fuel complies with Australian standards?
Hon
ALANNAH MacTIERNAN replied:
I thank the member for the
question. The Premier as Minister for State Development, Jobs and Trade has
provided the following answer.
(1)–(3) Controls
and procedures to ensure that imported fuel complies with Australian standards
are a matter for the federal department of the environment and energy.
