Parliamentary Questions

Question Without Notice No. 539 asked in the Legislative Council on 18 August 2021 by Hon Dr Steve Thomas

Parliament: 41 Session: 1

WASTEWATER — SECONDARY TREATMENT — COMPLIANCE

539. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the minister representing the Minister for Health:

I refer to the registration and compliance of wastewater treatment systems in Western Australia and changes in this industry for secondary treatment standards for wastewater.

(1) Are Western Australian businesses wanting to install secondary wastewater treatment systems expected to be certified as compliant with AS 1546.3:2017?

(2) If yes to (1), can they access testing for that compliance in Western Australia?

(3) If no to (2), are border closures impacting on their ability to access testing elsewhere?

(4) If yes to (3), will the government assist with the process to ensure WA businesses are not closed due to the impact of having no testing facility in WA and the border closures from COVID-19?

Hon STEPHEN DAWSON replied:

I thank the Leader of the Opposition for some notice of the question. The following answer is provided on behalf of the Minister for Health.

(1) No. However, businesses wanting to install secondary wastewater treatment systems are required to install systems certified to AS 1546.3:2017.

(2)–(4) Not applicable.
