EASTLINK
890. Hon Dr BRIAN WALKER to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Transport:
I
refer the minister to the proposed EastLink from Perth to Northam, heralded by
Main Roads as the ''culmination of more than 40 years of road
planning activities for the north-eastern corridor of the Perth metropolitan
area and Wheatbelt.''
(1) How many
submissions were received in response to the recent public consultation
exercise undertaken by the Department of Transport?
(2) How many of those submissions
raised concerns regarding heritage-listed properties?
(3) What
consideration, if any, has been given to the potential negative impacts the
EastLink may have on tourism attractions in the area?
(4) Will the minister consider a 1 000-metre setback
from any such heritage and/or tourism-related properties, to mitigate
any such risks?
Hon SUE
ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(4) The
Department of Transport has not undertaken public consultation on EastLink;
this has been led by Main Roads. An access
strategy has been developed to ensure there is continued access to towns and
major destinations along the route. Main Roads will comply with the
requirements of the Heritage Act.
