Question Without Notice No. 403 asked in the Legislative Council on 4 August 2021 by Hon Tjorn Sibma

Parliament: 41 Session: 1

FOREST MANAGEMENT PLAN — SURVEY

403. Hon TJORN SIBMA to the minister representing the Minister for Environment:

I refer to the involvement of the Western Australian Biodiversity Science Institute, WABSI, in conducting a public survey on the next forest management plan.

(1) Did the minister, including her office, approach WABSI to undertake this work, or did WABSI lobby the minister and/or her office?

(2) On what dates and times did these conversations occur?

(3) Will WABSI receive a fee for undertaking the survey; and, if yes, what is that fee?

(4) Did the minister and/or her office play any role in designing the content and structure of the survey?

(5) Will survey results be published; and, if so, via what means?

Hon KYLE McGINN replied:

I thank the member for some notice of the question. I provide this answer on behalf of the minister representing the Minister for Environment.

(1) The minister's office approached WABSI, in its role as a highly respected, independent science institute, to undertake the survey.

(2) On 14 May 2021, at 9.30 am; 8 June 2021, at 11.45 am; and 10 June 2021, at 12 noon.

(3) Yes; $56 700, plus GST.

(4) See the answer to (1).

(5) WABSI will provide a consultation summary to the minister. Individual responses will not be provided.
