ADOPTION ACT — STATUTORY REVIEW
1290. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the Leader of the House representing
the Minister for Child Protection:
I refer to the minister's answers last year to my
questions without notice 1149 and 1395 regarding the government's
response to the statutory review of the Adoption Act 1994 which was tabled two
years ago.
(1) Will the government now provide its response to each of
the recommendations of the review?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
(3) Which of the recommendations have been actioned and
completed?
(4) Which of the recommendations are in the process of being
actioned?
Hon SUE ELLERY replied:
I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
(1)–(2) No. The government is still considering some
of the recommendations of the review —
Hon Nick Goiran interjected.
The PRESIDENT: Order!
Hon Nick Goiran interjected.
The PRESIDENT: Member, would you like the
answer?
Hon Nick Goiran: That would be good.
The PRESIDENT: Yes; it would be. Just let the
minister provide it, please.
Hon SUE ELLERY: Thank you, Madam President.
(1)–(2)
No. The government is still considering some
of the recommendations of the review, most of which involve legislative
change.
(3) Recommendation 26, ''The Department should
develop and document clear procedures for the recruitment of members of
the Adoption Applications Committee'', has been completed.
(4) The remaining recommendations are all under
consideration. Several non-legislative policy recommendations, 17, 20,
24 and 28, will be implemented by the Department of Communities by the end of
December 2020.
